States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (2.81 to 3.20 percent) were California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin. States in the next highest group (2.41 to 2.80 percent) were Arizona, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia. States in the mid group (2.23 to 2.40 percent) were Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Texas. States in the next lowest group (2.07 to 2.22 percent) were Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wyoming. States in the lowest group (1.76 to 2.06 percent) were Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
