Figure 5.13 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past year any illicit drug dependence among persons aged 12 or older, by State, for 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (1.42 to 1.75 percent) were Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Washington. States in the next highest group (1.28 to 1.41 percent) were Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Tennessee, and Utah. States in the mid group (1.18 to 1.27 percent) were Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Wisconsin. States in the next lowest group (1.14 to 1.17 percent) were Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia. States in the lowest group (0.97 to 1.13 percent) were Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
