Figure 3.11 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week among persons aged 18 to 25, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (39.03 to 49.49 percent) were California, District of Columbia, Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. States in the next highest group (36.31 to 39.02 percent) were Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Louisiana, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. States in the mid group (34.71 to 36.30 percent) were Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Virginia. States in the next lowest group (29.54 to 34.70 percent) were Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, and West Virginia. States in the lowest group (25.16 to 29.53 percent) were Iowa, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
