Figure 3.6 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past month "binge" alcohol use among youths aged 12 to 17, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (12.39 to 18.12 percent) were Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. States in the next highest group (11.32 to 12.38 percent) were Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Vermont, and West Virginia. States in the mid group (10.08 to 11.31 percent) were Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Texas. States in the next lowest group (9.25 to 10.07 percent) were Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington. States in the lowest group (6.71 to 9.24 percent) were California, District of Columbia, Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia.
