Figure 2.22 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past year use of cocaine among persons aged 18 to 25, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (5.32 to 8.73 percent) were Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin. States in the next highest group (4.69 to 5.31 percent) were Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Virginia. States in the mid group (4.21 to 4.68 percent) were California, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming. States in the next lowest group (3.90 to 4.20 percent) were Alabama, District of Columbia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, and South Carolina. States in the lowest group (3.42 to 3.89 percent) were Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.
