Figure 2.18 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past month use of any illicit drug other than marijuana among persons aged 18 to 25, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (6.85 to 9.71 percent) were Colorado, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia. States in the next highest group (6.22 to 6.84 percent) were Alabama, Alaska, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, and Wyoming. States in the mid group (5.82 to 6.21 percent) were Arkansas, California, District of Columbia, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. States in the next lowest group (5.18 to 5.81 percent) were Arizona, Hawaii, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. States in the lowest group (4.35 to 5.17 percent) were Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Virginia.
