Figure 2.17 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past month use of any illicit drug other than marijuana among youths aged 12 to 17, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (5.23 to 6.19 percent) were Arkansas, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, Tennessee, and West Virginia. States in the next highest group (4.91 to 5.22 percent) were Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Kentucky, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, and Washington. States in the mid group (4.40 to 4.90 percent) were California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, New Jersey, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. States in the next lowest group (4.01 to 4.39 percent) were District of Columbia, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and South Carolina. States in the lowest group (3.35 to 4.00 percent) were Alaska, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Utah, and Virginia.
