Figure 2.11 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting perceptions of great risk of smoking marijuana once a month among persons aged 18 to 25, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (31.94 to 37.99 percent) were Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. States in the next highest group (29.42 to 31.93 percent) were Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, New Mexico, North Dakota, Tennessee, and West Virginia. States in the mid group (27.28 to 29.41 percent) were District of Columbia, Hawaii, Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, and Wyoming. States in the next lowest group (24.42 to 27.27 percent) were Delaware, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Washington. States in the lowest group (18.22 to 24.41 percent) were Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
