Figure 2.10 is a map showing percentages reporting perceptions of great risk of smoking marijuana once a month among youths aged 12 to 17, by State, for 1999 and 2000. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (41.31 to 45.66 percent) were Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Utah. States in the next highest group (38.70 to 41.30 percent) were Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. States in the mid group (36.55 to 38.69 percent) were District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Wyoming. States in the next lowest group (32.44 to 36.54 percent) were Arizona, California, Delaware, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Wisconsin. States in the lowest group (24.76 to 32.43 percent) were Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
