Figure 6.2 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past year serious mental illness among persons aged 18 to 25, by State, for 2001. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (12.99 to 14.36 percent) were Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Vermont. States in the next highest group (12.46 to 12.98 percent) were Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, Washington, and West Virginia. States in the mid group (11.90 to 12.45 percent) were Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. States in the next lowest group (11.34 to 11.89 percent) were Colorado, Maryland, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Virginia. States in the lowest group (9.70 to 11.33 percent) were Alabama, Alaska, California, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, New Jersey, and New Mexico.
