Figure 3.9 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week among persons aged 12 or older, by State, for 2000 and 2001. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (49.00 to 51.96 percent) were Alabama, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. States in the next highest group (46.63 to 48.99 percent) were Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington. States in the mid group (43.26 to 46.62 percent) were Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, and West Virginia. States in the next lowest group (41.68 to 43.25 percent) were Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Wyoming. States in the lowest group (36.73 to 41.67 percent) were Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
