Figure 3.2 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past month use of alcohol among youths aged 12 to 17, by State, for 2000 and 2001. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (19.82 to 24.72 percent) were Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. States in the next highest group (17.97 to 19.81 percent) were Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Rhode Island, and South Dakota. States in the mid group (16.90 to 17.96 percent) were Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia. States in the next lowest group (14.97 to 16.89 percent) were Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Washington. States in the lowest group (10.36 to 14.96 percent) were California, District of Columbia, Idaho, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia.
