Figure 3.11 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week among persons aged 18 to 25, by State, for 2000 and 2001. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (39.58 to 46.63 percent) were Alabama, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. States in the next highest group (35.85 to 39.57 percent) were Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. States in the mid group (32.59 to 35.84 percent) were Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. States in the next lowest group (29.66 to 32.58 percent) were Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Wyoming. States in the lowest group (25.42 to 29.65 percent) were Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
