Figure 2.5 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting past month use of marijuana among persons aged 12 or older, by State, for 2000 and 2001. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (6.02 to 9.06 percent) were Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont. States in the next highest group (5.18 to 6.01 percent) were California, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Washington. States in the mid group (4.62 to 5.17 percent) were Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. States in the next lowest group (3.93 to 4.61 percent) were Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. States in the lowest group (3.31 to 3.92 percent) were Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah.
