Alcohol Use, by Age Group, Adult Education, and Current Employment (Tables 7.1 to 7.3)

In contrast with the illicit drug measures assessed in this survey, levels of past year and past month alcohol use were positively associated with educational attainment. In general, adults who had attended or graduated from college reported greater lifetime, past year, and past month use than adults who had not attended college. For example, those who graduated from college were about twice as likely as those who did not graduate from high school to report past month use. For the total population and for those aged 26 or older, college graduates also were generally more likely to report past month use than were those with some college education.

Rates of alcohol use also varied across current employment categories. Overall and in all age groups except those aged 35 or older, use in the lifetime, past year, and past month was most prevalent among persons employed full-time.
