Patterns of Mental Health Service Utilization and Substance Use Among Adults, 2000 and 2001

Figure 5.3 is a pie chart indicating the percentages of inpatient treatment received in the past year by primary payer. The chart shows that 21.7 percent of adults receiving inpatient treatment in the past year had private insurance, 20.4 percent had Medicare, 16.4 percent had Medicaid, 20.9 percent were self or family paid, 4.7 percent had free visits, and 15.9 percent had another type of primary payer in the past year.
