Figure 4.2 is a U.S. map showing any tobacco product use in past month among youths aged 12 to 17, by State: percentages, annual averages based on 2002 and 2003 NSDUHs. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (17.70 to 23.18 percent) were Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia. States in the next highest group (16.67 to 17.69 percent) were Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. States in the mid group (15.41 to 16.66 percent) were Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Wyoming. States in the next lowest group (13.66 to 15.40 percent) were Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Virginia. States in the lowest group (8.43 to 13.65 percent) were California, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
