The DASIS Report: Asians and Pacific Islanders in Substance Abuse Treatment Admissions, 1999

Highlights:

  • Asian and Pacific Islander substance abuse treatment admissions increased by 37 percent between 1994 and 1999.

  • Nearly 19 percent of  Asian and Pacific Islander substance abuse treatment admissions were for stimulant abuse compared with 5 percent in the total treatment population.

  • In 1999, the average age at admission was younger among Asian and Pacific Islander admissions (age 30) than in the total treatment population (age 33).
