  • Between 1993 and 1998, there was a growing tendency to inhale rather than to inject heroin.
  • Persons who inhaled heroin sought treatment sooner than did those who injected heroin.

This Short Report,  The DASIS Report: Heroin - - Changes in How It Is Used  is based on the Drug and Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS), the primary source of national data on substance abuse treatment.  DASIS is conducted by SAMHSA's Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
